Seal Cove Auto Museum

A friend just told me about a very nice auto museum in Seal Cove, Maine facing Acadia National Park (not too far from Bar Harbor).  I am sorry that I did not know about this sooner, I would have taken many of my friends to it by now!

Taking from their website:  "The Seal Cove Auto Museum is one of the best antique brass car collections in the world. The collection includes over 100 rare and beautiful automobiles, and over 30 antique motorcycles." A sample of the collection- a 1913 Peugeot:

Unfortunately, the owner has passed away and some of the automobiles will be sold (upon his wishes) September 26 and 27, 2008 at the Owl's Head Transportation Museum.  The sale of the autos will provide an endowment so the vehicles left in the collection will be on display for future generations to enjoy.

Seal Cove is approximately a three-hour drive from Portland, Maine, and about a one-hour drive from Bangor, Maine.  Air service is provided by US Air Express from Boston to Bar Harbor on a daily basis.

The museum is open 10-5, seven days a week, from June 1 through the Sunday after Labor Day Telephone: (207) 244-9242

To get to the museum, take Route 3 from Ellsworth toward Mount Desert Island.  Just after the bridge onto Mt. Desert, bear right at the light onto Route 102 toward Southwest Harbor.  After driving through the Town of Somesville, turn right just past the fire department onto Pretty Marsh Road and drive 5.8 miles.  The Seal Cove Auto Museum is a large blue building, set back from the right side of the road, directly across from Seal Cove Pond.

Bar Harbor Inn Flower Gardens are Spectacular!

Yes, I'm hearing it all around the property, the flowerbeds are gorgeous!  Guests, visitors in town, people from all around are walking the property to look at the beautiful flowers.  Thank you Chris! Our gardener is not only a wonderful person, she is very talented.  Look at some of the photo's taken recently.

One of our employees photographs a Callosamia Promethea

Yes, Robin in Accounting sent me these pictures of what I thought was "just a moth".  It is a Callosamia Promethea.  It is beautiful no matter what you call it!

A guest emailed a picture taken while on vacation.

A guest emailed me last week with a copy of a picture she had taken recently while staying at the Bar Harbor Inn.  She took a very nice picture of the side of the Main Inn facing the pool area with a cruise ship in the background.  Thank you for sharing Mary!

While staying at the Inn lst week, I took this picture... with the Royal Caribbean Ship Explorer of the Seas in the mist in the background. Just thought I would share with you...  We enjoyed our stay at the Inn very much, thank you, Mary.

Dining Room Staff at the Bar Harbor Inn

I loaned the camera to one of my fellow employees the other day.....and when it was returned, I found a few pictures had been taken! 

I think our Dining Room and Terrace Grille staff are a great bunch and would like to see themselves on the blog! So.. the following pictures are members of our terrific Dining Room team, make sure you tell them when you visit that you saw their picture on the blog!

 

A beautiful setting for a wedding... Bar Harbor Inn's Porcupine Room

 I couldn't resist.  I was walking out of my office to go to the Reservations office when I noticed that the Porcupine Room was decorated for a wedding.  I had to check it out, wow, it of course is prettier in person, but I grabbed the camera and snapped a few pictures to share with you. 

 

The bride chose to have the ceremony out on the balcony and the reception in the room.

 

Kids in the Bake Shop at the Bar Harbor Inn

Another fun time for the "kids in the bake shop" at the Bar Harbor Inn!  July 8th Executive Chef Louis Kiefer spends time with the kids in the kitchen.  They all have fun and lots of laughs! Pastry Chef Janna helps out with some sugar goodies.

After slaving away in the kitchen, they take a moment to enjoy!

Each month during our season we vote on and pick an employee that has shown exceptional workmanship, is a team player and offers to the guests an added value.

For the month of July, Janna, our Pastry Chef has won that honor.  Congratulations Janna, you certainly do deserve it!!
