Renovations at the Bar Harbor Inn

The Bar Harbor Inn and Spa would like to share some exciting news about the renovations and restoration projects currently in progress over the winter while we are closed.

 The Main Inn building will be receiving a brand new entrance and the exterior along the pool and gardens will also be under construction. The restoration project will give the building a fresh look while still maintaining the same historic style of the Main Inn.

 19 rooms located on the 2^nd floor of our Newport building along with 8 rooms in the Landing section of the Main Inn building will be receiving a complete renovation.

The 27 rooms will be redesigned and feature classic blue tones with rich gold and cream color accents. The bedding, upholstery, carpet and lighting will all be replaced. This Traditional Seaside style is part of the Bar Harbor Inn’s plan for renovating all of the rooms on the property in the near future.

 The 19 2^nd floor rooms of the Newport Building will also be receiving brand new composite deck railing on the balconies and all 38 rooms in the Newport Building will have brand new ceramic tile flooring in the bathrooms.

 Lastly, the Ocean Front Lodge bathtubs and other fixtures in 49 bathrooms on the 1^st and 2^nd floor queen rooms will all be replaced and updated.

July 4th Celebration in Bar Harbor Maine!

 Celebrated on Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Blueberry Pancake Breakfast 6-10:30 a.m.

MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Blueberry or plain pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. A fun morning feast for the whole family.

 Community fair/marketplace 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

A number of area organizations will provide entertaining and educational activities at the athletic field throughout the day.

The Island Arts Association will hold a craft fair and marketplace at the YMCA, 21 Park Street. Offerings will include jewelry, quilts, photographs, pottery, and porcelain dolls. The event will raise funds for the YMCA and the YWCA.

Independence Day Parade 10 a.m.

Route winds through downtown Bar Harbor starting at the athletic fields on Lower Main Street, continuing to Cottage Street, to Eden Street, to Mount Desert Street and to Ledgelawn Avenue. This year's theme is “Red, White, Blue and Green.”

 Seafood Festival 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Enjoy lobster, mussels, corn, strawberry shortcake and more!

 Lobster Races!

At the Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street after the parade. Watch local businesses put their lobsters to the test in a high-speed crustacean contest. Proceeds benefit the MDI YMCA Scholarship Program.

 Concerts in Agamont Park

6-6:30 p.m.       Maine Academy of Modern Music’s Rock Camp

6:30-7:30 p.m.  The Larks: country and western disco new wave punk band playing

                          some of your favorites.

8-10 p.m.           Downeast Brass: entertainment for audiences of all ages playing

 Bar Harbor Town Band Concert 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Free concert on the Bar Harbor Village Green, Main and Mount Desert Streets. For more than 100 years, the Town Band, comprised of amateur musicians from around the region, has entertained thousands of locals and visitors.

 Fireworks Over Frenchman Bay 9:15 p.m.

Canon Photography in Acadia National Park

Join the Canon Photography in the Parks Program Parks

Canon U.S.A. and American Park Network are pleased to announce the 6th Annual Canon Photography in the Parks Program, where national park visitors can take unique, hands-on photo and video workshops and create lasting memories. All workshops are FREE and open to the public and equipment is available for use at no additional charge. The Canon Photography in the Parks Program offers participants free professional photography instruction as they take part in a guided walking photo tour of some of the most scenic national park areas.

Following the tour, participants have the opportunity to print their work on site, and to download their image collection later from a secure server. Visitors of all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate. New to this year’s program are Canon video workshop sessions. Visitors can experience and learn about shooting video using camcorders or EOS digital SLR cameras and participating in a hands-on videography demonstration with experts.

Those interested in the workshops should show up 15-30 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time. Instructors are expert at putting artistic and technical concepts into language that participants of all ages will understand and will help unleash their creativity.

The Canon Photography in the Parks Program will take place at various dates through the summer at the following national parks:

• Grand Canyon: May 31 – June 20

• Zion/Springdale: June 24 – July 9

• Yosemite: July 13 – July 19

• Yellowstone: July 23 – July 31

• Grand Teton/Jackson Hole: August 1 – August 2

• Rocky Mountain: August 5 – August 11

• Acadia: August 18 – August 29
